2007 SP Authentic

I'll start things off by saying I do not own any of these... yet. I will very shortly though. The great "Canseco cards for White Sox cards, but not Canseco White Sox cards" trade is in the works between this blog and Wax Heaven. The breaking of the hobby box of Sp Authentic can be seen here. The entire box, all 24 packs, shots of and commentary on every card is shown. 20 minutes of pure joy, especially with the first big hit.

I'm not jealous though. I get the complete White Sox team set through trade and my blog mentioned a couple of times. What else could I possibly ask for, when I have no money invested in this box break? Not a thing. It's smiles all around! More Canseco's find their way into Wax Heaven and more White Sox cards find their way into my hands. Something of John Cleese's explodes with delight. I'm not quite that far gone, but very happy nonetheless.

As I search high and low for Canseco's to trade, I must take breaks to eat, sleep and update this blog. Let's review this base set, shall we? We shall.

The cards themselves look average in this set. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to be ashamed about either. These cards won't be hanging out with your early 80's Fleer and Donruss cards. When this set is put together in an album, it looks great. You really have to put the cards side by side to bring out the hidden beauty in this set. Sometimes, that's just a pain to do, so this set gets just an average grade.

At 100 cards, SP Authentic should be fairly easy to collect. You should get most of the set in one hobby box. As for the White Sox team set, all three cards were found in one hobby box. Let's take a look at the checklist.
  • 60 - Jim Thome
  • 61 - Paul Konerko
  • 62 - Bobby Jenks

That's it. Just three cards of the usual suspects for the base set. It would've been nice to see a Buehrle or a Fields or even a Richar. That's not quite what this set is about, at least in Richar's case. In addition to the "hit" cards that Wax Heaven showed off many times during that video, there are two insert sets. Authentic Power and Authentic Speed. I can't always tell a White Sox checklist from looking at a set checklist. Cards of players in their old uniforms always tend to show up throwing a monkey wrench in the works.

As far as I can tell the Authentic Power cards include Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome and Paul Konerko. The Authentic Speed cards include Scott Podsednik and Tadahito Iguchi. I looked up the Iguchi card to confirm it on eBay. These remind me of Fleer Ultra inserts from 2006. They're OK, but again nothing to write home about. The base cards look better than the inserts, except for the Letter hits. Those look prett sweet!

  1. Thanks for the shout out but the deal is not in the works it is complete. I shall send those out first on Wednesday when I get paid. When you get them send me the Jose's.

Funny you mention that they were plain cards because after a couple of days gone by I think the backs look better than the front!

  2. I was thinking the same thing about the backs.

Any deal that is not in the hands is still in the works, in my book.
