This is my 200th post. That came up really quick. Yesterday, it occurred to me that this was approaching and I was racking my brain trying to think of something to make a subtle nod to 200.I came up with Jerry Reuss' 200th win. Win number 200 is not nearly as impressive as win number 300, but it's nothing to sneeze at either. That's quite an accomplishment. A lot of great pitchers never reach 200 wins. To reach this plateau, you need to be pretty consistent.
Jerry was only on the White Sox for a season and a half. He pitched his 200th win on May 9, 1988 and hurled 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball in the process. The interesting note is that he is only the second player in MLB history to win 200 games without winning 20 games in a season. The first to do that was Milt Pappas.
Jerry and Milt have one other thing in common. They both threw no-hitters in their careers that came one batter away from being a perfect game. Jerry's perfect game was broken up by a Bill Russell throwing error, when he was with the Dodgers. Milt's perfect game was broken up by a walk to the 27th batter he faced, when he was with the Cubs.
