Octavio Dotel

The White Sox have signed Octavio Dotel to a two-year, $11 million deal. Apparently, part of my prophecy from November 2007, has come true. He has been on Kenny Williams radar for a long time. The only problem is his health. Is this another M*A*S*H unit pick up? If so, the White Sox have the best chance at rehabbing him back to his former self.

Octavio had Tommy John surgery in 2005. Last year was plagued by shoulder and oblique strains. Maybe this will be the key to solidifying the bullpen. I hope so. Last year's version was horrible except for Wassermann and Jenks, essentially.

Incidentally, this is my favorite card of Dotel. Look closely at it. Doesn't it look like he's smoking a joint? It even appears that a light trail of smoke is coming from the "cigarette". But fear not, Octavio is just unfortunately placed in front of a light tower. Under extremely close inspection, that can clearly be seen. It just surprised me a little bit when I got this card in a pack of 2007 Topps Updates.

However it may work out, welcome to Chicago, Octavio. You'll love it here!

***UPDATE***
Maybe this isn't such a done deal after all. Now Octavio's agent is saying that he is not signed and that six teams are now "in the mix" for him. Ugh, more drama.
