The first 100 cards of the WSC Birth Years series is now available as a YouTube video, featuring "Bright Lights" by Gary Clark Jr. as background music.

Enjoy!

Who Wears Short Shorts?

Someone actually posted some footage on YouTube that features one of the three games from 1976, where the White Sox play in shorts! My computer gets wonky sometimes with YouTube video, but I saw enough great images in there to post this.

This isn't the infamous Kansas City game. This game is against the Orioles. I wasn't alive quite yet when this was filmed (I was still in utero). There's a nice beer stacking contest at the end of the clip and shots of the shower. Good stuff!

You see pre-game, with Ken Kravec pitching, Chet Lemon batting and someone who is not a player (but in uniform) catching. Most importantly, you can see the game itself. My guess is that it is August 22, 1976, the first game of a double-header. It must have been an exciting game... for Orioles fans. Jim Palmer won his 17th game on the season and Reggie Jackson hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the ninth. Boston fans even have something to cheer about in this game. Bucky Dent was hit by a pitch.

1984 Pizza Hut Commercial

Richard Dotson was a natural born pitchman. Carlton Fisk just loves to steal food. Enjoy!

Turn The Page

A very well done video by "Miss Jennifer" featuring Metallica's cover of Bob Seger's "Turn The Page".

In A World...

Don LaFontaine has died. Even if you don't know the name, you know the voice. He was one of the most recognizable voices that did movie trailer voiceovers. The movies will never be quite the same without his voice preceding the feature attraction.

He did manage to get on camera and have a little fun.

The Ligue Manifesto

Last night I was contacted by the creators of Oral Sox. Get your minds out of the gutter! It's not a "dirty" Sox website, it's a site with podcasts. Hence the name oral.

Adam and Jeff run a great site. It's full of podcasts that feature comedy with a White Sox twist. Some of it is ironic, some of it is downright hilarious, but all of it is good. They are die hard Sox fans, who have been doing this all season long. How this has escaped me before this, I'll never know.

Enjoy the Ligue Manifesto from youtube.

In no way am I condoning the actions of the Ligue family or anyone else who has a lamebrain idea like that. Enough time has passed to where it can be funny to start the healing.

Joe Vs. Pro

In 2007, Chicago sportswriters got all over A.J. Pierzynski for having a 16.2% for throwing out base runners. Is it that easy to steal on A.J.? Chicago Sun Times reporter Joe Cowley (not the ex-Sox pitcher) decided to find out for himself. See the results of 10 attempts to steal on A.J.

And this, a post that has nothing to do with cards, would be the 500th post. It kinda snuck up on me.

2008 White Sox Commercials

I was skeptical, at first, about the new company that took over the ad campaign for the White Sox. I was surprised to find the two newest commercials very entertaining and fun.

I suppose I should applaud them for finding a delivery guy that reminds me of ex-Sox relief pitcher Wayne Edwards. The "fan" reminds me of the "Get Up" guy from the 2000 season. He would always stand up, hold his "Get Up" sign and whip the crowd into a frenzy. He was always featured on camera when he did that.

I hear that there will be more commercials making their debut shortly. I hope they are as entertaining as these first two. They aren't much, but they do hit the right notes. Sometimes that's more important than a flashy spot with all the bells and whistles.

Here are YouTube videos of the first two spots. Enjoy!

White Sox Rookie Hazing

I stumbled across this video on YouTube. If you're the kind of sick puppy that wants to see Brian Anderson in a female cheerleader outfit (the kind his honeys wear) or Bobby Jenks as Fred Flintstone, this video is for you.

At least it looks like they're all having fun. That would be the point of this, right?

I always found the subject of rookie hazing to be interesting. I've never had to go through anything like that before, so I can only imagine. I've heard some veterans can be really mean with the hazing, but the White Sox veterans just look like they want to have a little fun.

Weird Al's eBay

There seems to be a lot of Weird Al going around this week. So, inspired by dayf's posting of "Living With A Hernia" and Tatiana's recent eBay loss (and my own eBay losses), I'll post this video which isn't really Weird Al's, but features his song "eBay". Maybe it will bring a smile to everyone who has experienced loss, felt slighted, or feared for jinxes this week. Enjoy!

Or for the ones who don't care for the newer stuff, here's a classic!

Conan's Tour Of Chicago

I ran across this video on YouTube. It features a tour of Chicago ending with a stop at U.S. Cellular Field. What happens when Conan O'Brien is unleashed on Chicago with a local tour guide and ends up getting batting advice from Jermaine Dye? Watch and find out.

Am I desperate for White Sox baseball to start in Chicago? You bet!

A Case For Josh Fields

For a long time, I seemed to be the only fan that was supporting Josh Fields. Since his name has appeared in many trade rumors this off-season, more supporters have come out of the woodwork. It's about time.

Josh Fields has the tools to become a great player. The White Sox would be gambling away their future by giving up a player of this caliber for short term gains that are not guaranteed. Granted, nothing is guaranteed, but Josh has shown more than just promise in his stint with the White Sox in 2007.

In 100 games, he has improved defensively at third base, while trying to also learn left field. He hit 23 home runs and had 67 RBI. Not bad for a rookie who was learning a new position of the fly. The only real problems were the .244 average and the high strikeout ratio. If the strikeouts are lessened, the average should come up.

I'm also encouraged by the White Sox decision to keep him at third base. Whatever happens with Joe Crede, Josh will be ready to take over should Joe leave by trade or free agency. Over Christmas, I stumbled upon this video of highlights from Josh's 2007 season. It should open some people's eyes about Josh.
