Harold Baines Jr., a left-handed hitting outfielder from McDaniel College in Maryland, was selected in the 45th round of the June 2009 draft by the Chicago White Sox. He is the son of Sox hitting legend and first base coach Harold Baines.

Yeah, talk about a legacy pick, the kid wasn't even the best player on his team let alone his league. I understand why he was picked, but I feel terrible for the kid who lost his spot to Jr. Look at the stats...and remember, this is coming from D3.

One of Kenny Williams' kids was drafted in the 43 round. I can remember Ron Schueler's daughter being drafted in the late rounds of the '93 draft. I just hope Jr. gives it a shot. If if can turn out half as good as Sr., it would be a justifiable pick that late in the draft.

He is known as Little Rock. I am friends with him and his wife and all I can tell you is this kid is a hard worker. He doesn't live on daddys name and he knows what it takes to get a job in the bigs. He was brought to the Sox because there was a better chance for him to get a bigs job. He is serving his time in N. Carolina. His #'s last year in winter ball were just under 300 and sown South he did very well. Keep an eye on him.

That's great to hear! I wouldn't expect any less from a son of Harold Baines choosing the path of professional baseball, knowing the way Harold Sr. approached his career.

Please keep me up to date on Little Rock's progress!

wouldn't Little Rock be a better nickname for Tim Raines Jr?

Baines Jr's minor league numbers are here. He batted .147 in 25 games at rookie-level ball.

I would think so, but who knows. Maybe he idolized Raines Sr. growing up.

Thanks for the link, Andy!

Maybe Raines is his real dad.
