... Topps pulls this variation card out of their hat. In what seemed like minutes after I had opened my mouth and claimed that I would be frustrated if the White Sox had a stupid "variation" parallel, I run across this card staring me in the face.
Ugh!
Topps should really have their license pulled for crap like this. It's not cute anymore. It stopped being cute the moment I saw a squirrel with his own baseball card, along with a cutesy name that made me want to vomit.
Can someone please organize an intervention for Topps? One is long overdue.

I can see getting upset about the ridiculous Jeter/Pedroia cards, but why stress over a black & white photo variation?
If you want to chase, go for it. If not, pretend it doesn't exist. There's no reason your set can't be complete with the color card.
So where would one find this squirrel card? My wife loves squirrels.
I think variations are better than inserts. As long as you can get the regular card, it is up to you to whether or not you want to chase the variation. It is a simple collectible that can't be searched through packs.
the squirrel card is amazing in my opinion... it came out of 07 Topps Updates and Highlights and had a ridiculous odds of pulling it... It can be had for about $20 on Ebay... just search for "Poley Walnuts"
I'm not really stressing about it, I'm just sick of them in Heritage releases. I'm still trying to track down the two variations from the 2008 Heritage set.
As a team collector, I try to collect one of each card, unless that card has a ridiculously low print run. The variations like these have a pretty high print run compared to the money that is usually forked out for them. It's just annoying, as a collector.
Yup, what laf said... Poley Walnuts from the '07 Topps Updates & Highlights set.
The Rios card sold for $41 on ebay. I've been a Sox Heritage collector, but I will be passing on this card. No thanks.
Yeah, I saw that too. 11 bids! If I can find it cheap, I'll pick it up. If not, the regular high number team set is already in transit to me. So I've got that going for me.
$41 seems cheap now. I just saw one close at $209, and last week there was one at $180, I believe. That's insane.
