February 1

1912 Max Stein Postcards - Buck Weaver

On this day in 1914, the first exhibition game played in the Egyptian desert was played between the New York Giants and the Chicago White Sox, in Cairo, Egypt. The White Sox and Giants played ten innings and wound up with a 3-3 tie. It was the first of fifty-six games as part of a world tour promoting baseball.

Buck Weaver battled Jim Thorpe for the "MVP" of the Desert Sands League, where Buck Weaver helped turn the tour's only triple play, which he almost performed unassisted.
