Colon Found!

There's been a Bartolo Colon sighting! He actually won the game for the AAA Charlotte Knights today.

Bartolo pulled himself away from grieving over the death of Michael Jackson to pitch a nice game. While not a gem up to Thriller's standards, Bartolo got the job done. I just wish I knew if he came out wearing one pitcher's glove and one sequined glove.

Either way, it's good to have Colon found and ready to moonwalk his way to victories. Here's hoping that he's back up with the parent club soon and dedicating his winning season to the King of Pop.

Welcome back, Bartolo! We were worried!

Colon Blow

Colon Blow is part of any loss started by Bartolo Colon.

It really wasn't all his fault, but I've been sitting on this image since Bartolo's last horrendous outing, which was a little while ago.

The bigger mystery... why pitchers making their MLB debut always puzzle the White Sox. The world may never know.

Bartolo Colon? Really?

The fifth starter role must be a desperate one to fill for the White Sox. The White Sox have signed Bartolo Colon to a one year deal. He will be competing with Aaron Poreda, and potentially others, for that coveted fifth starter role.

Can Colon stay healthy? Can he still be effective after injuring himself batting last year? Anything is possible. If Bartolo thinks this will be another cakewalk on the South Side, he is sorely mistaken. Gandhi is not in charge anymore.

There is a Venezuelan born Tazmanian devil on the loose and in charge. He will not put up with lame excuses, but if you play the right way, he'll be your best friend. Is this the reason that Bartolo stayed away the last few seasons? He turned down the White Sox flat on more than a few occasions.

I think Bartolo is a man running out of options. He can clearly pitch, when he's healthy. Getting him to stay healthy is the real challenge. He has a history of DL trips and sub par performances. Is this an upgrade from Javier Vazquez? I say it is. Why? Because Bartolo isn't afraid to step up in a big game. Whether or not he will be healthy enough to do that remains to be seen.

OK, Bartolo. Let's see what you've got left. If you put on a pitching school this season, you can write your ticket anywhere in 2010.

The Return Of Bartolo?

I've heard rumbling about Ozzie Guillen being in the Dominican Republic scouting Bartolo Colon. I would think this wouldn't be the worst idea out there. If Bartolo could bounce back, he would be a great asset to the White Sox as a fourth or fifth starting pitcher, depending on how the Sox wanted to use him.

When Bartolo is healthy, he's one of the better pitchers out there. This seems like a move Kenny Williams likes to do. Taking a chance on rehabbing pitchers is nothing new for the Sox. If Bartolo can be had for an incentive laced contract, it could become the bargain of the off-season. If he does well, Bartolo would be paid well. If not, the Sox wouldn't be out too much for an experiment like this.

I really don't see the White Sox coming in at the last minute and snagging Johan Santana in a trade. That would be the ideal solution, but it's not going to happen. The Sox don't have the players that the Twins want and the cost would go up drastically because the Twins are in the same division. Trading a superstar to the direct competition is a no-no.

Bartolo could become the cheap veteran alternative with very little downside. If he doesn't work out, Floyd or Danks would be waiting to take over his spot in the rotation. That would give the odd man out a little more time to be seasoned, either in the minors or in the bullpen working long relief. I could see a lot of upside to Bartolo signing a low cost/high reward contract.
