2007 Upper Deck First Edition #72 - Alex Cintron
On this day in 1978, Alex Cintron was born.
Alex came to the Sox through a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks before the 2006 season. He was obtained to be a utility infielder, but took on a more serious role in 2007, when he would sub for Joe Crede, who was having back issues. Alex became more of a defensive liability when he was playing third base. Cintron committed ten errors over fifty games in the field. The Sox realized pretty quickly that Alex was not working out, so they limited his role.
After the 2007 season, Cintron bounced around six teams and seven different stints. Some resulted in MLB time, some didn't. On May 24, 2011, he voluntarily retired from the San Diego Padres.
