On this day in 1987, the White Sox drafted Rodney McCray from the San Diego Padres in the minor league draft.
Rodney's claim to fame was crashing through an outfield wall during a minor league baseball game. It made national news and it made many Sox fans wait patiently for McCray to get called back up. Over two seasons with the Sox, Rodney batted .154 in forty-nine games. The Sox originally drafted McCray in 1982, but he didn't sign. Rodney would sign with the Mets before the 1992 season, but after eighteen games, he was released.
