The White Sox traded for Charles Johnson and Harold Baines on July 29, 2000, sending Brook Fordyce and three minor league players to the Baltimore Orioles, to help with their push to the playoffs. Charles batted .326 with ten homers and thirty-six RBI in forty-four games. The plan worked, propelling the Sox into the playoffs for the first time since 1993.
