On this day in 1950, Jorge Orta was born.
Jorge's contract was purchased by the White Sox from the Mexican Northern League on November 30, 1971. He made his debut for the Sox on April 15, 1972 against the Kansas City Royals. Over eight seasons with Chicago, Orta played in 990 games, manning second base, left field and shortstop mostly. He hit .281 with seventy-nine home runs and four hundred fifty-six RBI. Jorge went into Free Agency after the 1979 season and signed with the Cleveland Indians.
