Trading With Chuck

I've been receiving some interesting e-mails lately, regarding trades. Some work out, some don't. Actually, most of them do work out. The ones that don't, I file away and try to find out exactly what the other person is looking for. If I happen to run across something off of a list of abandoned trades, I'll pick it up and try to rekindle the trade.

This trade started off with one card. A 1984 Nestle Dream Team card of LaMarr Hoyt. To be honest with you, I wasn't really aware of this card's existence. When I thought of Nestle and 1984, I always thought of the Topps clone set. I'm very happy that Chuck, from Chuck's Used Cards, was able to bring this card to my attention.

The rest of the package would be a surprise. He only asked for a list of five things in return, in order of preference.
1. MLS soccer cards
2. hockey cards
3. Yankees / Red Sox
4. non-sport; historical (presidents etc.)
5. anything old

The first two, I couldn't really help Chuck with. I don't collect them and nobody sends them to me. If I had any, they would be yours. The last three, I think I can put something together for you. Something should be on its way to you shortly.

The package was beat up by the time it got to me. It even had a shoe print across my address! Classy work of the U.S. Postal Service. I'm not that concerned about the outside. Did the contents arrive undamaged?

Yes, they were fine.

Let's see what surprises are in store for me. I told Chuck that I love surprises and I wasn't disappointed.

1981 Fleer
346 - Harold Baines

1981 Topps
138 - Rich Dotson

1983 Kellogg's 3-D Superstars
56 - Carlton Fisk

1984 Nestle Dream Team
NNO - Checklist
9 - LaMarr Hoyt

1984 Topps
716 - Jerry Koosman (AL Strikeout Leaders)

1988 Topps Mini Leaders
8 - Carlton Fisk

1992 Donruss
658 - Ramon Garcia

A Baines rookie! A Fisk 3-D card! Nestle oddball cards! I'm in heaven!

Then, it got a little weird.

1991-1992 Pinnacle
32 - Mike Ricci

1991-1992 Topps
255 - Trent Yawney

1992-1993 Score
200 - Jeremy Roenick

1992-1993 Stadium Club
26 - Bryan Trottier
167 - Jeremy Roenick

1993-1994 Ultra
289 - Michel Goulet

2005 Pacific
176 - Eric Lindros

Hockey cards!! It's very interesting to see Fleer and Topps use older baseball card designs for their cards. These are pretty cool! Not enough to sway me to purchase hockey cards, but enough to pique my interest here.

Then it got really strange!

2001 Tomb Raider
TR3 - Lara Croft

2005 Lord Of The Rings Evolution
P1 - Frodo

Wow! The pouty lips of Angelina Jolie and the terrified look of Elijah Wood! Those are really cool! Frodo is all shiny! There's a concerned close up and a terrified shot of him with a sword. There's a close up of Angelina Jolie with seductive eyes and a faraway shot holding two guns up, on her card.

Thanks, Chuck! This turned out to be a real treat and a surprise to boot!
