Sox Fest 2008

White Sox mailbag guru Scott Merkin wants all of the White Sox posters to say hi to each other. Some of us just read and don't post questions to whitesox.com. I would introduce myself as the writer/creator/proprietor/insane person that runs White Sox Cards. There's only one problem, I'm not going. I never go to these things. This year, I'm broke and can't afford to stay at the Palmer House Hilton to get first crack at tickets. I can't even afford tickets.

I'd rather sit at home during these events and focus my interests on other aspects of White Sox baseball. I'm sure this is a fun experience and maybe someday I will go. Just not this year. Probably not the next either. Someday though.

Mark Buehrle is supposed to be there. I'm sure he will be mobbed with questions about his no-hitter. Kenny Williams will be grilled by the fans in the Q & A. Ozzie will just be Ozzie. Nick Swisher, Carlos Quentin and Scott Linebrink all are set to appear. So will Paul Konerko, A.J. Pierzynski, Jermaine Dye, Javier Vazquez, Bobby Jenks, Josh Fields, Jerry Owens, John Danks and Gavin Floyd. It sounds like a rollicking good time.

For those who remember the White Sox before the past decade (and you historians out there), Mike Squires, Bart Johnson and Joel Horlen will also be there. Maybe Horlen and Buehrle will compare no-hitters. This just marks the last hurrah before pitchers and catchers start reporting to Arizona.

Right now, every team has the potential to win the World Series. That doesn't mean that it's going to happen for my team or your team. Everything is just a clean slate right now. There is plenty of baseball to be played and plenty of baseball cards to collect in 2008.

You talk about comparing no-hitters at Sox Fest I guess they will have a special session with Juan Nieves and Mark.

Thanks for reminding me about that. It completely slipped my mind. Since Juan is now part of the coaching staff, that would make sense.

Keep up the good work. I know I have said this before, but I really enjoy coming here to see what card will show up next.

Thanks! It's comments like yours that make it all worth while. I'm trying my best not to repeat cards. With over 100 years as a club, I think I won't have to repeat too many.
