The Sox Just Signed John Van Benschoten

Apparently, the White Sox have just signed John Van Benschoten to a minor league deal. This could pay huge dividends down the road for the Sox.

John has a history of injury and a history of great Minor League numbers and bad Major League outings. Maybe a change of scenery will benefit Van Benschoten. It has worked in the past. Just take a look at Bobby Jenks.

It looks like Kenny Williams is seeking bullpen help wherever he can find it. Let's hope something worthwhile sticks.

If the Sox are looking for decent bullpen help, I hear the Blue Jays are looking to cut salary. Maybe they can part with Jason Frasor. He has local ties to the Chicago south suburbs and he was part of the amazing middle relief that Toronto has had in the past few years.

I don't want to be a downer or anything but as a Pirates fan I feel I owe you a scouting report. He became known as John Van Ben Scrotum amongst fans. The only reason he got so many chances was that the Bucs wasted a number one draft pick on this guy. They passed among others, Prince Fielder because Fielder was "not an athlete." After numerous arm injuries and 5 runs in one inning starts the Pirates finally paid him off and cut bait. Sadly this converted outfielder has surprising power and has hit a few homers in the games where he managed to pitch long enough to get an at bat. Maybe you guys can put him at DH and make him the next Rick Ankiel. Anyways I nkow you're a great White Sox fan and I hope this does work out but I would be remiss if I didn't admit that I'm happy he's gone. Just wanted to give you an honest heads up.

The Sox usually have an MO of picking up other teams' trash and desperately try turning it into treasure. They've had more success at that method than most teams, but it's still a risky venture.

I appreciate your honesty as a fan.

Thanks for the info. The Sox already picked up a one dimensional slugger off the Pirates scrap heap last year. Brad Eldred.

Nice. Hey you never know. Look what happened with Tim Wakefield, Jason Schmidt, Jon Lieber, Bronson Arroyo... You might catch lightning in a bottle. =)

Who knows, the Sox may have another Jamie Moyer on their hands. I doubt it, but you never know. :)
